Jewish identity and practice are rooted primarily in Torah Sheb'al Peh, which is itself presented and detailed in the Mishnah, related Tannaitic texts, and Amoraic and Talmudic texts. Despite the centrality of the Torah Sheb'al Peh, study of Mishnah and Talmud has been severely hampered by lack of professionally designed learning and teaching materials which reflect a coherent and consistent methodology to content and skills' acquisition.

The Bonayich programs are a fully integrated curriculum for the study of Torah Sheb'al Peh for Grades 4-8 (or 5-9) in diaspora schools, combining enriched content with a skills-based approach. The first three years of the Bonayich program are dedicated to the study of Mishnah and other related sources of the Tannaim, and the materials are called "V'Shinantam Program for the Study of Mishnah."  The fourth and fifth years are a separate program called V'Dibarta Bam, which bridges from study of Mishnah to fully independent study of Talmud.  For information on the V'Shinantam Mishnah program, please click here.
The V'Dibarta Bam Talmud Skills Program is designed for those who have completed the V'Shinantam Mishnah Program, or its equivalent in the special Skills Booklet which summarizes the skills learned in the three years of V'Shinantam

The Talmud program subdivides into two years:

Year One:  Amoraim and Amoraic Literature

  1. Familiarity with the Amoraim of Israel and Babylonia, according to their Batei Midrash and generations.
  2. The Memrah, in all its forms and permutations, and identification of memrot in the sugyah.
  3. Sugyot of Amoraim, in all its forms and permutations
  4. Scanning of sugyot in the Vilna Talmud and identifying sugyot according to fixed types.

Year Two:  Aramaic and Shakla V'Tarya

  1. Fundamentals of Babylonian Aramaic
  2. The functions of Shakla V'Tarya in sugyot of Amoraim
  3. Sugyot of Shakla V'Tarya
  4. Patterns of argumentation in the Shakla V'Tarya

A third, optional year of V'Dibarta Bam is planned, which will provide a thorough introduction to Rishonim.
The V'Dibarta Bam program materials include full color workbooks for students, full teacher guides, extensive teaching aids, maps and activity centers.  Assessment instruments are also available.  The program is designed for two lessons per week, and is to be combined with study of any chapter of Talmud, according to the skills learned.

Selected chapters of Talmud have been prepared by Bonayich for use in the program, please click on:  Pirkei Gemara.
